Trustee from 1995 - Present

DAVID M. COIRO is a Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager with Rochdale Investment Management, with more than twenty years of diversified investment management experience. He began his career in 1973 in Washington, D.C., with the New York Stock Exchange member firm Folger, Nolan Fleming, Douglas, where he gained valuable experience trading municipal bonds and working with substantial institutional investors. In 1979, he joined R.W. Corby & Co., a prominent Washington investment banking and institutional municipal bond firm, where he expanded his interests and experience in private and limited partnership investments. He led and participated in the organization and financing of several private investments. Mr. Coiro joined Rochdale in 1983 and is an equity shareholder. Mr. Coiro received his B.S. from Boston College, where he studied economics and finance. Mr. Coiro attended Georgetown’s Graduate School of Foreign Service. The GHI Foundation is pleased to have Mr. Coiro, lend his expertise as we seek to raise financial support to underwrite our philanthropic goals.

JOSEPH PIERCE FARRELL is an internationally recognized pioneer, lecturer, researcher, and author in the field of the consciousness studies. He has twenty years of experience in healthcare, practicing and studying complementary and alternative modalities (CAM) that embrace the integral relationship of the mind, body, and spirit. Since 1999, he has dedicated his life to advancing the integration of healthcare and the study of consciousness to augment modern conventional healthcare for better patient outcomes. He is a Founding Board Member of the Global Health Institute and currently serves as the Director. He served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2004-2007, at which time he stepped down to focus on his work at GHI as the Project Director in Consciousness Studies. For his pioneering study and clinical research in Consciousness-Based Healthcare, he was endowed with the nation’s first chair in consciousness studies, The Ambassador’s Chair in Consciousness Studies.  Mr. Farrell has over twenty years of experience serving  on various not-for-profit boards including The Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club,  the Triumph Foundation for Artists with Disabilities, the United Nations – NGO Committee on Spirituality, Values, and Global Concerns, The Association for Trauma and Outreach Prevention, and the Global Health Institute.

MARC JACOBSON, P.C. has a broad range of business and legal experience, serving as an advisor to diverse clientele, with over 15 years experience serving on the Boards of varied organizations. Selected by Super Lawyers magazine (2008 and 2009), and listed in Chambers & Partners USA Guide, an annual listing of the leading business lawyers and law firms in the world (2005-2009 editions), Mr. Jacobson has taught law at Fordham University and Law School of The City University of New York. Additionally, as the former General Counsel, Chief Financial Officer and SVP of Public Policy for a major online service, Marc was a principal draftsman of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act. He is the founding Chairman of the New York State Bar Association Section on Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law.  He is admitted to the bar of New York, Florida, and California.

Len Horovitz, M.D.

LEN HOROVITZ, M.D. is a double-board certified specialist in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine.  He is in private practice in New York City, where he is the Director of Carnegie Medical P.C.. Dr. Horovitz utilizes the latest diagnostic methods, and he advocates personalized strategies for preventive care and wellness, resulting in a low rate of hospitalization in his practice. For the past ten years, Dr. Horovitz has appeared on national television (CNN, ABC ,CBS, Fox), giving expert medical advice on a range of topics.  He also comments on the latest medical literature for newspapers, magazines, radio, and Internet news and health sites. Dr. Horovitz is an author of the medical anthology, “The Singer’s Guide to Complete Health” (Oxford University Press, 2010). He graduated from Brown University (Phi Beta Kappa and Summa cum Laude), and from New York University School of Medicine.  He trained at Bellevue Hospital, Mt. Sinai Hospital (NYC), and Lenox Hill Hospital, where he remains on staff. He made the prestigious list “The Best Doctors in New York” for both Pulmonary and Internal medicine in New York Magazine.

Beverly Rubik, Ph.D.
Director, Biophysical Studies from 2005-Present

Dr. Rubik, biophysicist, is president and founder of the Institute for Frontier Science, a nonprofit institute for scientific research and education on the mind-body, subtle energies, and complementary medicine in Emeryville, CA.  In the 1990s, Dr. Rubik served on the Program Advisory Council to the Office of Alternative Medicine at NIH and chaired two panels on complementary medicine.  She has conducted NIH-sponsored research on healing in collaboration with the University of Arizona. Dr. Rubik serves on the editorial boards of two professional journals, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine and Integrative Medical Insights.  She is a professor at Union Institute and University in Cincinnati and at the new Energy Medicine University in Sausalito, CA.  Dr. Rubik has delivered invited keynote lectures worldwide.  She also advises clients at the Health Medicine Center, an integrative medical practice in Lafayette, CA.

PETER ROCHE DE COPPENS, PH.D.  is a Professor of Sociology, Anthropology, and Psychotherapy at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania since 1970, also teaching at Sorbonne University (Paris) and McGill University (Montreal) and lecturing at other universities and research centers around the world. He has dedicated the last 50 years of his life to the study of spirituality, the awakening of spiritual consciousness, holistic education and holistic health, and he is a prolific author on the role of spirituality in the healing process. For over 30 years, he has served as a consultant and Board member to various health organizations including the United Nations, GUNA in Rome and Milan, and Global Health Centers.

Patricia A. Muehsam, M.D.
Director, Basic Science Research from 2004-Present

Dr. Muehsam is a clinician, educator, and research scientist. As a clinician, Dr. Muehsam has a private practice integrating Western medicine with a number of holistic practices. She has made extensive study of traditional healing systems including Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and homeopathy. As an educator, she has been a pioneer in the field of medical education. She founded the Association of American Medical Colleges’ first initiative in curriculum development in alternative and complementary medicine and led this initiative since its formation. Her work laid the groundwork for curriculum development in alternative and complementary medicine at medical schools throughout the United States. Locally, she started The Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s first curriculum in alternative and complementary medicine. She currently teaches medical students at Mount Sinai and others who travel from around the globe to study with her about these practices and her unique approach to healing. As a research scientist, Dr. Muehsam has been involved in laboratory research investigating mind-matter and mind-body interactions, publishing her work. Dr. Muehsam has traveled nationally and internationally and given hundreds of lectures and experiential workshops on all aspects of her healing practice for physicians and other health care providers, and she has presented her research at professional medical and scientific meetings.

Henry Grayson, Ph.D., ABPP
Director, Exploring the Integral Relationship between
Psychology, Spirituality and Health from 2011-Present

Henry Grayson, Ph.D., a scientifically and spiritually oriented psychologist in New York City, was the Founder and Chairman of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, an esteemed postgraduate training institute in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, chartered by the Board of Regents in New York State. As one of the current leaders in integrating psychotherapy, spirituality and science, he holds graduate degrees both in psychology (Boston University) and in theology (Emory University), is Director of the Institute for Spirituality, Science and Psychotherapy and Founder and past president of the national membership organization, The Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy. Originally a certified psychoanalyst, he has not only studied and practiced most of the major psychotherapies, but also has drawn from diverse worldwide spiritual traditions, quantum physics, neuropsychology, and the new "power therapies" such as EMDR, mind-body medicine, creative visualizations, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), EFTA, and others. His published work includes Changing Approaches to the Psychotherapies, and will release soon two books: Use Your Body to Heal Your Mind and The Truth About Depression: A Non-Drug Approach. He appeared five times weekly on Lifetime Cable network, currently has a weekly radio show “Mindful Living” on the Progressive Radio Network, and lectures widely across the U.S. and abroad.
